Highly rated Uruguayan international Diego Godin is the latest name to be linked with a summer switch to Liverpool according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 25-year-old defender currently plies his trade in Spain with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, but speculation continues to mount that he could leave for England this summer.
Godin is said to be on Reds boss Kenny Dalglish’s radar, as he looks to strengthen Liverpool’s defensive line ahead of the new campaign.
With Jamie Carragher growing ever older, and Daniel Agger struggling to overcome his injury problems, it’s always been believed that the Reds would be in the market for a central defender during the transfer window, and interest in Godin proves that.
Liverpool will be hoping to tempt Godin to Anfield with the incentive of being able to link up with fellow south American star and international teammate Luis Suarez – both of whom are currently in action in the Copa America where Uruguay have just successfully reached the final.
Godin only joined Atletico last summer for a fee in the region of £6.6million, and if Liverpool wish to step up their interest, it is widely believed they will have to offer double the amount, quoted at around €15million.
Having also attracted interest from a number of other major European clubs, the Godin deal is far from concluded due to the fact that Liverpool are unable to offer European football next season, and so the player may well be tempted away from Anfield this summer.
However, a source close to Godin described the transfer situation as ‘fluid’ last night, but according to the Telegraph, WOULD consider a move to Merseyside.
