Premier League Live: Arsenal enter race for 17.5 strike sensation reports

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Belgian teenager Romelu Lukaku, despite the striker seemingly closing in on a transfer to Chelsea.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the north London club hope to usurp their west London rivals, despite Lukaku’s £17.5 million move to Stamford Bridge close to being completed.

Lukaku has been earmarked for greatness ever since scoring 15 goals during his debut season for Anderlecht aged only 16.

The muscular forward – who is a fully fledged international – has been compared to Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, while he has attracted interest from numerous clubs.

Whether or not Arsenal are genuinly courting the 18-year-old remains to be seen, but Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen to bring extra firepower to the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal boss has already added Gervinho to his ranks, but the Gunners still lack adequate back-up for Robin Van Persie.

Gervinho, meanwhile, marked his Arsenal debut with both goals in a friendly victory over FC Koln on Saturday.
