Premier League Live: Barca star wants United skipper at Nou Camp

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes says it would be an ‘honour’ if Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic made an unlikely move to the Nou Camp.

“We always strive for the highest goals at Barcelona and look forward to when the world’s best players come to us,” Valdes told Sportski Portal.

“So is the case with Nemanja Vidic, who is certainly one of the best defensive players in the world, perhaps the best.

“It would be my honour if he came to Camp Nou to command our defence.”

Whether or not Barca actually harbour a genuine interest in Vidic remains to be seen but, even if they did, there would surely be no chance United would sell the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, United and Barca meet tomorrow as both clubs ramp up their respective pre-season preparations.

The Champions League finalists will renew acquaintances in Washington DC, with United no doubt keen to see a reverse of May’s encounter at Wembley.

Sir Alex Ferguson certainly hopes his troops can strike a psychological blow on Saturday, although the United boss was happy to admit Barca are undoubtedly the world’s best side at this moment in time.

“In everyone’s mind they are the best team, currently, in the world,” said the Old Trafford supremo.

“I’m quite happy to be in second place at this moment in time because that’s our challenge. Our challenge will be to get to that level.”
