Fernando Torres is confident Chelsea fans will see him back to his free-scoring best next season after what was something of a trying settling in period at Stamford Bridge.
The World Cup-winning Spaniard insists he’s not weighed down by the £50million price tag, and feels he will benefit from a full pre-season with the Blues.
Torres is not the first player to be transferred in January and struggle to find his best form straightaway – and he certainly won’t be the last.
But whilst form can be temporary, class is permanent and there has never been any doubting that Torres has class…. and lots of it. Just ask Chelsea skipper John Terry.
Torres took some flak for failing to hit the ground running in his new colours last season, unfairly so, but JT is confident his Spanish pal’s best is just around the corner.
“I think that’s unfair on Fernando, he had the injury he sustained at the World Cup and came into the season with that,” noted Terry.
“He would have liked to have scored more goals than he did. He’s in the same position as everyone else, he’s looked sharp in training and in the games also.
“He’s happy, there’s a bit of pressure on him but that’s why he’s one of the best strikers in the world. He wants to win the Premier League, that’s one of the first things he said to me.”
Torres is looking forward to proving the doubters wrong, and says he’s lost none of the confidence and ability that made him one of the most feared strikers in Europe.
“I’m 27. Don’t worry I don’t forget to score goals… I will score,” said Torres. “It’s going to be a big season. My form is okay, it’s time to be fit and ready. We’re trying to get into the best form. We have got big expectations and I can see the winning mentality we have here.
“We are starting a new season with a new manager with new people around the team and it’s time to be fit and ready.”
