Bolton manager Owen Coyle is looking to improve on last season and add to his squad before the new season kicks off but finding suitable replacements is proving difficult.
However, the shrewd Scot is hopeful of bringing in at least two players. GMF caught up with him ahead of a meeting of Barclays Premier League managers….
Q. What is the purpose of the meeting?
A. All the Premier League managers meet up before the start of the season and we discuss any issues that have arisen from the previous season.
It’s an annual event to see if we can move the game forward and make the Premier League a better product.
Q. Are there any major issues to discuss this season?
A. Not really, it is more about little tweaks. The great thing for me is that there is an open discussion to move the game forward because the Premiership is the best league in the world and we want to make it even better.
Q. From a Bolton point of view, how has pre-season gone so far?
A. We’re working hard, everybody enjoys pre-season, there’s extra conditioning and makes you ready for the start of the season on August 13th.
We all have that sense of anticipation and excitement when it comes about, but it’s important you do all the preparation work prior to that.
Q. You look as if you are trying to do some business with your former club, Burnley, and bring in a couple of players. How is that progressing?
A. Nothing is finalised as of yet, we’re in the process and not jumping the gun, but it’s important that we bring some freshness in.
We’ve lost a couple of players and we’re looking to add quality to it. The players we are after I believe have the necessary quality to enhance Bolton Wanderers.
Q. How difficult is it to bring in players at the moment?
A. It’s always difficult because the market can swing from one end to the other and the prices can rise.
So you can only do the best business you can for the football club and we’re quietly pleased at the moment, but I would like another couple of faces to come in before the start of the season proper.
