Premier League Live: Lambert not dwelling on injury woe

Paul Lambert accepts the loss of striker James Vaughan and centre-back Elliott Ward for the start of Norwich’s Barclays Premier League campaign is a blow, but will not be rushed into buying replacements.

The Canaries continued their pre-season build-up with a forgettable goalless draw at Southend on Thursday night, which saw full-back Kyle Naughton make his first appearance since signing on a season loan from Tottenham.

“They are both going to miss the start of it, which is a bit of a blow for us, but we have to go on and that is why you have the squad,” said Lambert.

“It is not a few months or anything like that. Hopefully they will be back quite soon, but they will miss the first few games, that is for sure.

“We will have to get them back pretty quick when they start their rehab.”

Norwich – who lost 1-0 at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night – continue their pre-season preparations at Coventry on Saturday, ahead of home friendlies against Spanish side Real Zaragoza and Italian outfit Parma before the opening Premier League fixture at Wigan on August 13.

Lambert is happy enough with the progression of the squad.

He said: “At the moment, it is just trying to keep everybody fit. As soon as the games start to work down next week, the team will gel together to get ready for Wigan.”
