Manchester United youngster Oliver Gill has made the decision not to extend his deal with the club, but instead enrol at Durham University to study economics.
The 20-year-old defender was an unused substitute on four occasions over the past two seasons for the Barclays Premier League champions, while he was also voted Reserve Team Player of the Year last season
However, United have confirmed Gill has rejected the offer of a new contract and will now focus on a career away from football.
An Old Trafford spokesperson said: “Oliver was offered a new contract by the club, but he has decided instead to focus on his studies.”
Gill is the son of United chief executive David Gill and joined the youth academy in 2007.
He spent a spell on loan with Bradford in 2010 – making four appearances for the Bantams – but will now seemingly follow his father into business, with Gill Snr having been connected with United for 14 years.
